Hot water cylinder plumbers in Garforth

Leaking, slow or cold cylinders repaired or replaced, from a new immersion heater to a full switch to mains-pressure hot water.

Gledhill hot water cylinder fitted in an airing cupboard with new copper pipework

Plenty of Garforth homes still have a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. When it leaks, runs out too quickly or stops heating, we repair or replace it, and tidy the pipework around it while we’re there.

Cylinder work we do

  • Like-for-like replacement of vented copper and stainless cylinders, like the Gledhill pictured
  • Immersion heaters and thermostats replaced
  • Cylinder thermostats and motorised valves
  • Shower pumps fitted and replaced on tank-fed systems
  • Unvented cylinders for mains-pressure hot water
  • Airing cupboard pipework replaced and isolation valves added

Vented or unvented?

A vented cylinder is fed from a cold tank in the loft; simple and reliable, but pressure depends on the tank height, so many need a shower pump. An unvented cylinder runs at mains pressure with no loft tanks. It needs the right safety controls and is notified to building control.

Or a combi?

For smaller homes, replacing a cylinder and loft tanks with a combi boiler frees up the airing cupboard. See boilers.

Questions about hot water cylinders

How long do cylinders last?

Often 15 to 20 years or more. Leaks from the body mean replacement; immersions and thermostats can be swapped.

Why does my hot water run out fast?

A cylinder too small for the household, a failed immersion or thermostat, or a heating fault. We find which.

Do I need a shower pump?

On a tank-fed system with low pressure, often yes. On a combi or unvented cylinder you don’t, and shouldn’t fit one.
